Men's Basketball: Golden Lions Falls To Auburn Tigers, 91-59

Box Score Auburn, Ala. - In their last game of the 2013 portion of their schedule, the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff men's basketball team dropped a 91-59 decision to Auburn Tigers at the Auburn Arena before a crowd of 4,467.

The Lions scored the first points of the contest with a three pointer by Ghiavonni Robinson after the first tip off to make the score 3-0. Auburn (7-3) quickly answered with a 15-0 run to go ahead 17-3 with 14:55 on the clock. The Tigers run was haltered by a jumper by DeAndre McIntyre.

A lay-up by McIntyre pulled the Lions (2-10) within 12 at the 14:26 mark, but Auburn responded with 13-1 run to increase their advantage going into the locker room at half leading 53-25.

The teams traded a few points with the Golden Lions playing better than they did in the first half, holding Auburn to 38 points in the second half compared to 53 in the first.

The Lions was without their big man Daniel Broughton, which gave the Tigers a little more advantage scoring 46 points in the paint compared to UAPB 22.

For the first time this season UAPB had three players in double figures, which is good leading into SWAC conference play. Tevin Hammond led the way with 19 points and five assist, also highlighted with Davon Haynes recording his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. DeAndre McIntyre finished with 11 points, but it was a bitter sweet moment for the junior losing to SEC foe Auburn but playing in front of family for the first time this season.

UAPB shot 21-for-64(32.8%) from the field, 8-for-20(40.0%) from the three point line and 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line.

Auburn jumped out hot in the first half but UAPB defense cooled them off forcing the team to 21 turnovers in the game. Auburn finish the game shooting (65.4%) for the game. Auburn was led by KT Harrell with 19 points, followed by Chris Denson with 17 points and Dion Wade with 15 points.

UAPB return to action on Saturday, January 4 when they travel down the road to Itta Bena, MS. to faced Mississippi Valley Delta Devils at 5 p.m.
