Box Score Iowa City, IA- UAPB basketball team scored 46 points in the second half, but that was not enough for a comeback win against No. 25 Iowa Hawkeyes in an 86-61 defeat Sunday afternoon at the Carver Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa (11-1) got off to a hot start in the first half of the game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the 16:38 mark. The Lions answered back by adding 3 points on the board by
Ghiavonni Robinson but the Hawkeyes bounced back with 15 unanswered points.
The Lions only shot (18.8%) shooting 6-for-32 from the field in the first half, in which was a season low for the team. The Hawkeyes open up the first half hitting 5-for-6 in the first half behind the ach to enter the locker room with a 52-15 lead at the half.
UAPB battles back to in the second half to cut the lead and forcing Iowa to commit 15 turnovers in the half and 27 overall for the game, to which is a season high for UAPB defense.
The Lions (1-8) outscored the Hawkeyes 46-34 in the second half.
Tevin Hammond led the way for the Lions scoring 19 points, five assist and two steals,
Davon Haynes and
Marcel Mosley both contribute 11 points apiece.
UAPB shot 22-for-65 (33.8%) from the field, 8-for-26 (30.8%) behind the arch and 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line.
The bench also played a major role in the game with Iowa outscoring UAPB 47-24 from the bench.
Iowa combined shooting 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the three point line, which was anchored by Jared Uthoff finishing with 16 points, followed by Josh Oglesby with 13 and Adam Woodbury with 10 points.
The Golden Lions will be back in play against SEC member Auburn Tigers Dec. 30, 2013 at 7:00pm.
