PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Savalace Townsend scored 21 points, including 11 during a game changing run in the second half, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff rallied to defeat AlcornState 72-62 on Monday night.
After trailing by 15 in the first half, the Golden Lions (6-19, 6-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took control of the game with a 21-2 run that turned a 42-31 deficit into a 52-44 lead with 7:59 to play. Townsend scored 10 straight for Arkansas-Pine Bluff during the run, and the Lions led the rest of the way.
Kendrick McDonald led the Braves (3-20, 3-10) with 14 points, and Marquiz Baker had 13.
Townsend was 3 of 8 from the field and accounted for half of Arkansas-Pine Bluff's 28 made free throws.
The Golden Lions will now get set to travel to Texas for a two-game road trip versus Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M respectively.
