AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips defeated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 87-64 on Thursday night in non-conference action.
 
Both teams turned the ball over on several early possessions before the Zips used a 9-0 run to open up a 20-7 advantage at the 9:54 mark.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-7) cut the Akron lead to nine (22-13) with 5:13 left in the half, but Akron would score 12 of the last 19 points to take a 34-20 lead going into intermission.
 
UAPB struggled to find rhythm offensively as they shot 25.8 percent from the floor in the first half (8-of-31). The Golden Lions ended the contest shooting 33.3 percent from the field. Akron shot 59.3 percent from the field in the game.
 
UAPB's Savalace Townsend led the Golden Lions in scoring tallying 23 points (5-of-17) and three assists. Mitchell Anderson and Clay Johnson chipped in 12 and 10 point respectively.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff will now travel to play DePaul on Saturday, December 17^th at 7:00 pm.
