Arkansas-Pine Bluff falls to Michigan 63-50

UAPB's Savalace Townsend
ANN ARBOR, Mich.- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff men's basketball team put forth a valiant effort on Tuesday night as they dropped a 63-50 decision to the #18 ranked Michigan Wolverines.

The Wolverines led by as many as 25 points, but UAPB finished the game on a 12-1 run as they forced Michigan into committing 13 second half turnovers.

"Coach started reading the stats to us, and we just looked at each other,” said UAPB's Savalace Townsend. “We knew it was bad, but those were some ugly numbers. I have no idea what happened, we don't play like that."

Townsend finished the game with 15 points while UAPB's Lazabian Jackson led all Golden Lions scorers with 23 points.

"Michigan plays good defense, but I didn't expect our team to come out that cold. We couldn't make a shot, except for Lazabian," UAPB coach George Ivory said. "I was proud of the way we finished the game and our kids didn't give up. We finally started hitting some shots and we were able to get some turnovers. That's something to build on."

Arkansas-Pine Bluff outscored Michigan 33-26 in the second half. For the game the Golden Lions shot 38 percent from the field while shooting 7-of-17 from behind the arc and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. UAPB will now get set to play at Akron on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
