The Lady Lions first-half goal helped UAPB (6-4-1, 2-0-0) win its third straight win over Alcorn State. Molly Stone got the Lady Lions on the board in the 25th minute in the first half, while goalkeeper Meaghan Storie picked up the shutout victory.
"It was a good win for us today," commented Head Coach Roberto Mazza on the victory. "It is a different surface than we play on all year. The field was very narrow and we had to adjust our game quickly."
Despite only scoring one goal, the Lady Lions dominated the game with 17 shots to Alcorn's 1, and 8 corners to Alcorn's 0. The Lady Lions defense, lead by Erika Forbes and Kaitlin Morin, were very stingy. Alcorn's only shot of the game came off a free kick with 4 minutes left in the game, and Meaghan Storie recorded one save for her first full game shutout of the season. “I thought our back four had an outstanding game, said Mazza. We have great leadership from Erika and Kaitlin in the back.”
The Lady Lions will now begin gearing up for Sunday Mississippi Valley State. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
