#UAPBWomensHoops Fallls to Alabama A&M on the Road 66-52

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 66-52 to the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on the road Saturday.

Jailah Pelly led the Golden Lions with 16 points and three steals. Kristyna Boyd added nine points and 10 rebounds and Stephanie Okowi helped out with eight points, eight rebounds and two steals off of the bench.

UAPB grabbed 37 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Alabama A&M's 35, led by Boyd's 10 boards. The Golden Lions also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 13 rebounds into four second chance points.

The UAPB defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Alabama A&M turnovers. Those takeaways turned into seven points on the other end of the floor. Pelly's three steals led the way individually for the Golden Lions.

How It Happened

UAPB struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-6 at the end of the first quarter.

The Golden Lions continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-15 halftime deficit.

Alabama A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 43-15 advantage before UAPB went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Boyd, to trim its deficit to 43-22 with 5:24 to go in the third. The Golden Lions were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to Alabama A&M either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 53-32. UAPB knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points.

UAPB narrowed its deficit to 63-44 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Pelly's layup, to shrink the deficit to 63-50 with 1:52 to go in the contest. Alabama A&M responded and outscored the Golden Lions the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 66-52. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 20 points in the paint.
