PINE BLUFF, AR -- D'Arrah Allen totaled 21 points, but the UAPB women's basketball team fell to the Prairie View A&M Panthers 68-61 at home Monday.
Allen's 21 point effort led the Golden Lions. Kristyna Boyd helped out with a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and Stephanie Okowi chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds coming off the bench.
UAPB shared the ball well in Monday's game, racking up 15 assists on 20 made field goals. Individually, Empress Roberts dished out the most for the Golden Lions with three assists and Nadiyah Byard also helped out with three assists of her own.
UAPB forced 21 Prairie View A&M turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Monday's game. The Golden Lions turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Boyd's three steals led the way for UAPB.
How It Happened
After playing to an 11-11 tie early in the game, UAPB went on a 7-0 run with 2:39 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Allen, to take an 18-11 lead. The Golden Lions then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-15 advantage. UAPB did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 18 points close to the basket.
The Golden Lions could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 36-35.
Prairie View A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 52-46 advantage before UAPB went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Briontanay Marshall, to trim its deficit to 52-51 with 27 seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter.
UAPB could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 68-61. UAPB took advantage of seven Prairie View A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
