DAYTONA BEACH, FL --The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team took a 48-47 advantage into the fourth quarter, but could not hang on and fell 62-58 to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on the road Thursday.
The Golden Lions had four players score in double figures, led by D'Arrah Allen, who had 13 points, eight assists and two steals. Stephanie Okowi added 12 points and nine rebounds and Kristyna Boyd chipped in as well with 12 points.
UAPB utilized great ball movement in Thursday's game, piling up 18 assists on 26 made field goals. Allen's eight assists paced the Golden Lions.
UAPB's defense held Bethune-Cookman to only 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-8, UAPB went on a 6-0 run with 4:20 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Allen, to take a 14-13 lead. The Golden Lions then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-18.
UAPB kept the Wildcats from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a three from Jailah Pelly, to take a 28-23 lead. The Golden Lions kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 37-32 advantage heading into halftime. UAPB was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 19 points.
After intermission, UAPB held on to its advantage and owned a 48-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter. UAPB played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 11 points in the paint.
Bethune-Cookman then erased the UAPB lead in the game's final quarter for a 62-58 comeback victory. UAPB took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 10 points in the paint.
