ARKADELPHIA, AR - Junior Samaria Jackson and freshman Jada Carhee each collected two extra base hits to help lead the UAPB Lady Lions over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers 9-1 on Sunday.
Grad. Sydney Green (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for UAPB (1-0). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out six.
Carhee's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and four RBI. Jackson made her contribution with a double, a home run, two walks and an RBI, part of a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. Sophomore Gabriella Belyeu also helped out for the Lady Lions, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Lions got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. UAPB got on the board thanks to Belyeu's RBI double.
After the Tigers rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Lady Lions came back to retake the lead in the second inning. UAPB scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer off the bat of Carhee, scoring senior Natalie Rogers and junior Jasmine Carlson, which brought the Lady Lions lead to 4-1.
UAPB held Ouachita Baptist scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-1 the following inning.
UAPB held the Tigers without a run before building on their lead in the fifth inning. The Lady Lions added a run on Carhee's two-out RBI double, bringing the score to 7-1 in favor of UAPB.
The Lady Lions kept Ouachita Baptist off the board before building on their lead to 9-1 the following inning. UAPB picked up two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of Jackson. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Lions coasted to the win.
