The Golden Lions Offense Ranks In The Top-2 In The SWAC Conference In Total Scoring

#UAPBFootball Makes Trip To Southern U. For SWAC Showdown

PINE BLUFF, AR. – The Golden Lions are set to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to go head-to-head with the Southern U. Jaguars on Saturday, October 1, at 6 p.m. The game will be aired on ESPN+ with Santoria Black (play-by-play) and Ken Moore (color analyst) on the call. The contest also will be broadcast on 99.3 The Beat with Laron Marbley (play-by-play) and Carlos James (analyst) on the call. The last time both teams met at A.W. Mumford Stadium (3/6/21), the Golden Lions knocked off the Jaguars 33-30.

MATCHUP: The Golden Lions (2-2, 0-1 SWAC) are coming off a disappointing road loss to Alcorn St. 21-38. Kayvon Britten totaled (93) yards to lead the UAPB ground attack and added two touchdowns in the game, picking up (4.9) yards per carry along the way in the matchup against the Braves.

The Jaguars are coming off a bye from last week after dropping a 24-0 match to Texas Southern in the Arlington Football Showdown in week three.

RUN THE FOOTBALL: UAPB rushing attack comes into this weekend showdown ranked (25^th in the FCS/ 3^rdSWAC) in total rushing yards (776), averaging (194.0 ypg). Sophomore Kayvon Britten, leads the ground attack, ranked (13^th FCS/ 2^nd SWAC) with a total of (387) yards and averaging (96.8 ypg). Britten also ranks (5^th FCS/ tied for 1^st SWAC) in total touchdowns (6).

SPECIAL TEAMS: The special teams return unit ranks 1^st in the conference in punting (13.7 ypg) and kickoff (27.7) returns for UAPB. Jewel Fletcher leads the way, ranked (1^st SWAC) for the Golden Lions, averaging 14.3 yards. Josh Sanchez continues to showcase his "Golden Boot". Sanchez ranks (2^nd SWAC) averaging 46.6, with a season-long 68-yarder.

VS. SOUTHERN U.: The Jaguars will be coming into this matchup versus the Golden Lions well rested after coming off a bye week. The Jaguars are led by quarterback Besean McCray, who leads the team in rushing, with a total of 220 yards on the ground and one touchdown. On the defensive side, the Jaguars are led by Corlone Harris, who leads the team with 16 tackles and one interception.

GET TO KNOW MR. ISSAC PEPPERS: Graduate linebacker Issac Peppers racked up 11 tackles in the matchup against Alcorn St. last weekend. Through four games, Peppers ranks in the (top-10 SWAC) with a total of 27 tackles and one forced fumble.

REESE'S SENIOR BOWL WATCH LIST: Preseason All-American offensive lineman Mark Evans II was named to the 2022 Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List announced last month. The selection is the sixth preseason honor for Evans in 2022, as he was previously named Black College Football Hall of Fame Watch List.

Evans was also named to the Stats Perform FCS All-America Third Team, BoxToRow HBCU All-America First Team, and East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000 list. He's also a four-time First Team (SWAC) All-Conference, three-time HBCU Boxtorow All-America, Boxtorow All-America Honoree, HBCU Classic All-American, and Rated top-10 HBCU player by Pro Football Network.
