#UAPBFootball Set To Kickoff The 2022 Season At Home Against Lane College

PINE BLUFF, AR. - Golden Lions football is back as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff kick-off the 2022 season against Lane College on Saturday, September 3, at 6 p.m. CT at Simmons Bank Field.  The game is set to air on UAPB Sports Network and the contest will be broadcast on 99.3 The Beat with Laron Marbley (play-by-play) and Carlos James (analyst) on the call. 

The Golden Lions and the Dragons are set to go head-to-head for the second consecutive year, with UAPB winning the last matchup 34-16.  Senior quarterback, Skyler Perry passed for 189 yards and one touchdown and was the leading rusher for 79 yards.  On the defensive side, Monroe Beard III led all tacklers with eight. 

SAVY VET: All-American offensive lineman Mark Evans II returns for his fifth season.  Last season played a significant role in helping UAPB finish in the top 6th (SWAC) in total yards per game (1,383), ranked in the top in the conference in knockdowns, and gave up only one sack for the Golden Lions.

Evans returning as a significant offensive threat on the front line, known as (The U-Haul Moving Crew) was named to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, Stats Perform FCS All-America Third Team, BoxToRow HBCU All-America First Team, East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000 list.  He's also a four-time First Team (SWAC) All-Conference, three-time HBCU Boxtorow All-America, Boxtorow All-America Honoree, HBCU Classic All-American, and Rated top-10 HBCU player by Pro Football Network.

TK35 TACKLING MACHINE: Monroe Beard III registered Beard was labeled as one of the top hard hitting linebackers in the SWAC Conference. Beard ranked in the top-10 in several categories in the conference, 5th in total tackles (78), 5th tackles average per game (7.1), 6th in the conference in solo tackles (44), 9th in the conference in sacks (5).

GOLDEN BOOT: Josh Sanchez, following the steps of NFL (New Your Giants) punter Jamie Gillian in college days as a Golden Lion.  Sanchez, who was recently named to the Boxtorow All-American team, started in all 11 games for the Golden Lions and ranked one of the top punters in the conference, averaging (40.2) yards per punt, ranking 6th in the conference. Sanchez tied for first in the conference (SWAC) with punts landed inside the 20 with (21), ranked 5th in the conference with punts over 50+ (8). Sanchez had a season-long of 68 yards earlier this year against Southern U.
 
TRANSFERS TO WATCH: The Golden Lions brought in a standout transfer class to join the program for the 2022 season.  Defensive Back Syncere Jones (Miami OH), defensive back Wankeith Akin Jr. (University of Buffalo), wide receiver Javaughn Williams (Kent St.), tight end Tristan Ballard (Wheeling University), wide receiver Chrysten Cochran (University of North Dakota), running back Joshua Edwards (Arkansas St.), and Grant Ewell Jr. are slated to play key roles for the Golden Lions as we approach the season.
 
REMEMBERING BENJAMIN ANDERSON AND ZOE' ROBINSON:  The entire UAPB community mourns the loss of Benjamin Anderson and student/Football Film Crew Zoe' Robinson who passed away.  Anderson a native of Little Rock, AR., will be remembered during his time at UAPB, as a gifted athlete, a diligent student, and a tremendous teammate.  

Anderson, a 2010 graduate of Little Rock Parkview, was a four-year starter and letterman for the Golden Lions, where he set and broke all UAPB passing records.
Robinson, a former student who worked with the film crew, was able to touch the lives of so many during her time as a member of the UAPB football program.  She was an inspiration to so many as her positive attitude and smile were always able to lift a room.  Both Zoe' and Benjamin's memory will live forever.
