The Golden Lions are coming off one of the more dramatic, exciting wins in recent memory. With the score tied in the fourth quarter, UAPB drove 75 yards in seven plays in the final 50 seconds for the victory. Shannon Patrick's 17-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Brown on the final play of the game resulted in a 37-31 win at Tennessee State, the program's first win over the Tigers in five meetings.

"It was an awesome feeling and sense of pride that our players should have after that win," said UAPB head coach Cedric Thomas. "For the players to be able to experience that (is a moment) they can't take away. For the guys to believe in it, trust it, and go out and execute on a high-level is really a blessing. Kudos to (offensive coordinator Jermaine) Gales and his offensive staff for believing in it and executing at a high level…Overall, it's just a big-time victory for the community, for the team, for everybody who ever strapped it on, and every one that ever took a class at this great institution, everyone should be able to bask in the glory."

Defending West champion Southern comes in to UAPB after erasing a 17-point deficit at Florida A&M before falling to the Rattlers, 27-21. Saturday's game is the conference opener for the Jaguars.

"The physicality and the hard-hat mentality is the first thing that jumps off of film," said Thomas of the Jaguars. "And then, the execution. We're talking about champions. They are champions for a reason. They've lost them, they've won them, they've gone full circle with it."
