Box Score The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team defeated Central Baptist College 2-1 in their home opener Thursday at Pumphrey Stadium.
"It felt good to get the first win of the season," said UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer, who earned his first win with the Lady Lions."Â I think we've got to get back to the basics. We've got to focus and finish our opportunities, but we'll be alright as the season picks up."
Junior Alexis Sanders scored her first goal of the season in the 8th minute when she scored from the left corner to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead in the first half.Â
Coming out of halftime, the Lady Lions (1-0) added to their lead when freshman Lizeth Martinez took a pass from teammate freshman Mariela Flores on the near side. Martinez's shot went past the Lady Mustang goalkeeper to give UAPB a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute in the second half.Â
UAPB outshot Central Baptist College 32 to 10 and controlled ball possession 57% to the Lady Mustangs 43%.
The Lady Lions returns to action on Saturday at Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.Â
