Soccer Opens Regular Season Against Central Baptist College on Thursday

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team opens the 2019 regular season at home against Central Baptist College on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Pumphrey Stadium.
It's a new era for the program with first-year head coach Jeremy Winzer set to coach his first official match at UAPB.

"The girls are excited to be playing at home," Winzer said. "I'm looking forward to this game because it's always nice to open up at home. It's not an easy game, but we'll work hard to execute what we've learned in practice and make sure we are prepared going into it."

The Lady Lions enter the opener with 17 new players for 2019, including nine freshmen and eight transfers. UAPB also returns five starters and several key players from last year squad.
Last season the Lady Lions finished eighth in the SWAC with a conference record of 3-5-2, qualifying for the conference tournament.

This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2013, with the Lady Lions winning 2-0. Central Baptist, located in Conway, Ark., also has a first-year head coach in Lance Gordon.
