Last season, UAPB's 15-10 win over Texas Southern in the final game of the season, highlighted by a goal-line stand to preserve the win, provided a boost and spark heading into 2019. Thomas is looking for the same impetus heading into 2020.

"There an explosive football team," Thomas said. "We're not good enough to just show up looking at the record. There's a lot to play for. Those guys, for them, their championship game is this week also. They can go into the spring salvaging the season…Our deal is it's our championship game also. For the first time since 2012, we have everything to play for, one of the building blocks and foundational sectors that we're looking for to go into the spring also."

For the past two weeks, UAPB Head Coach Cedric Thomas has given the team to his team that this 'our Super Bowl, our championship game' for this final game in looking to post a winning record for the first time in seven years as another positive step for the program.

"It's kind of like the homecoming curse," said Thomas of UAPB's win over Lane in October which was the first homecoming win by the Golden Lions since 2012. "It's everything right now. Mind, spirit, body, soul is associated with this 6-5 run and being winners. I told them I'm pouring (powerade in celebration) on everybody on the sideline (if UAPB wins). That's how important and how much it means to me going forward.  Coming in 2-9 (last season) and now (a chance to be) 6-5, there's a lot of teams right now that are not making that transition."
