The Arkansas At Pine Bluff men's basketball team begins a stretch of three games in six days with a Saturday night contest at Grand Canyon.
The Golden Lions and Antelopes will tip off shortly after 7 p.m. central time in Phoenix. The UAPB Sports Network radio broadcast begins at 6:45 p.m. with Lions Roar Pregame on 99.3 The Beat, online at uapblionsroar.com, and on the free UAPB Athletics App. The game can also be viewed online on ESPN3.
UAPB showed improved from game one to game two in contests at South Florida and at #8 Gonzaga. The Golden Lions scored more points, shot a higher percentage from the field, and reduced turnovers. Saturday's game at Grand Canyon is the first in a six-day stretch that will also feature games at Kansas St. Tuesday night and at Pittsburgh Thursday night.
Shaun Doss (12.5 ppg),
Dequan Morris and
Markedric Bell (each 8.0 ppg.) lead the Lions in scoring.
"This week, we've really focused on taking care of the basketball, running our sets, and being a little more patient offensively," said UAPB head coach
George Ivory. "Defensively, we've worked on our concepts and what we need to do to defend better. The biggest thing right now is turnovers. If you turn it over, you don't get an opportunity to shoot it."
Members of the Western Athletic Conference, the 'Lopes are winless in three games and are coming off a loss at San Diego Wednesday night. Isiah Brown and Jovan Blackshear Jr. (each at 14.3 ppg) lead Grand Canyon in scoring.
"They are a very, very athletic team that gets up and down the court," said Ivory. "The things that we'll have to do is get back, play solid defense, especially in transition, and be where we need to be position-wise on the court."
