PRAIRIE VIEW, TX. - The University of Arkansas At Pine Bluff soccer team travels to Texas for two pivotal games against Prairie View Friday at 7 p.m. and Texas Southern Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both games will help determine a berth into the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Prairie View Nov. 7-10.
"We're going to continue to take it one game at a time," said first-year UAPB coach Jeremy Winzer. "We're going put all our focus on Prairie View and worry about the next game when Sunday gets here."
The Lady Lions are coming off a 1-0 defeat at home to Jackson St. With the loss UAPB now stands in the eighth spot at 3-4 in the conference. Prairie View holds the second spot at 6-1 in conference play and Texas Southern in third with a conference record of 4-2-1.
Senior Sarah Wright leads the conference with nine goals. Wright also ranks first in the conference in points total with 20, tied fifth in the conference on shots on goal with 18 and tied for second in total game-winning goals with two. Junior Alexis Sanders comes into the match 10th in the conference in total points with 12.
Freshman Lizeth Martinez tied third in assists with a total of three and tied for third in total game-winning goals with two. Freshman goalie Trinity Taylor continues to contribute big for UAPB on the defensive side in conference rankings. Taylor ranks third in saves per game with an average of 6.47, third in total saves, with 97, and sixth in goals-against average at 2.46.
