The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff soccer continues its SWAC season against Jackson St. Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pumphrey Stadium for Senior Day.
The Lady Lions are coming off a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Southern Friday. UAPB stands at 3-3 and in a three-way tie with Jackson St. and Grambling St. for fifth. The Lady Tigers come into the match also at 3-3.
Senior Day festivities start at Noon prior to the match. Â
"I think the match Friday woke us up," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer. "We can't afford to let games slip away, especially when they all count. Sunday will be a very important match for us, but also a bittersweet moment as our five seniors will play their last game. These young ladies did an excellent job of representing the University and the program on what it means to be a Golden Lion."Â
Senior Sarah Wright leads the conference with eight goals. Wright also ranks first in the conference in points total with 18, tied ninth in the conference on shots on goal with 14 and tied for second in total game-winning goals with two. Junior Alexis Sanders comes into the match tied ninth in the conference in shots on goal with 14, and ninth in points with 10.Â
Freshman Lizeth Martinez ranked 10th in assists with a total of three and tied for second in total game-winning goals with two. Freshman goalie Trinity Taylor continues to contribute big for UAPB on the defensive side in conference rankings. Taylor ranks third in saves per game with an average of 5.85, fourth in total saves, with 76, and sixth in goals-against average at 2.7.Â
