InThe University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer returns home to Pumphrey Stadium to face against Southern on Friday at 4 p.m. and Jackson St. Sunday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
The last two times Southern and UAPB have met, the match has resulted in a tie for two consecutive years, 2-2 in 2018, and 1-1 in 2017.
"This is a very important match for us," said first-year UAPB head coach Jeremy Winzer. "We have a chance this weekend to punch our ticket in the tournament if we take care of business and do what we're suppose to do."
The Lady Jags come into the match with a conference record of 0-4-1 and ninth in the conference standings. The Lady Lions fell to top-seeded Howard at home by a score of 2-0 last Friday but come into the match tied for fifth place with a conference record of 3-2. The Lady Tigers stand in eighth place in the conference with a 2-3 record.
Senior Sarah Wright leads the team with seven goals and tied for first in the conference. Wright also ranks first in the conference in points total with 16, ninth in shots on goal with 13 and tied for second in total game-winning goals with two. Junior Alexis Sanders comes into the match ranked 10th in shots on goal, eighth in points with 10.
Freshman Lizeth Martinez ranked eighth in assists with a total of three and tied for second in total game-winning goals with two. Freshman goalie Trinity Taylor continues to contribute big for UAPB on the defensive side in conference rankings. Taylor ranks third in saves per game with an average of 6.17, fourth in total saves, with 74, and sixth in goals-against average at 2.9.
