After winning the homecoming game for the first time since 2012, the Golden Lions have had a good week of practice in preparation for the Delta Devils.
"We've been totally locked in," said UAPB head coach
Cedric Thomas. "It's almost like they are back to believing us because they are charting uncharted territory. No one on my football team has been 4-2 in college, but we have coaches who have done it. As coaches, we're giving them a foundation of what 4-2 looks like, but also what 4-3 and 5-2 looks like. When you look at them, they're very enthused."
The Delta Devils have played better than their record indicates, and have been one of the SWAC's best defensive teams, particularly with their ability to cause turnovers (13), and the way they pressure the pocket (second in the SWAC in 15 sacks).
"They run around making big time plays, giving their offense opportunities and great field position situations," Thomas said. "They take it out, they intercept it, they recover fumbles. Their enthusiasm about getting to the football and creating turnovers, you can tell it's being coached. (Head Coach Vincent) Danzy is doing a great job of getting them locked in."
