BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Rebecca Holmes and Sarah Wright, and Alabama State goalkeeper Gianna Guyot have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference as soccer players of the week for their efforts during opening weekend of league play.

SWACĀ Offensive Player of the Week – HolmesĀ powered a 9-0 blowout win overĀ AlcornĀ State with a hat trick and an assist for the Lady Lions. The senior found the twine twice within the first five minutes of play against the Lady Braves, completing the trifecta in the 71stĀ minute and found Shannon Seymour for a score in the 77thĀ minute of action. Holmes is tied for the league lead in scoring during conference play.

SWACĀ Defensive Player of the Week – WrightĀ led the defensive effort for the Lady Lions this past weekend versus Mississippi Valley State andĀ AlcornState. In the team's 2-2 tie against theĀ Devilettes, Wright was tasked to man-mark and defend the nation's leading scorer inĀ LaadiĀ Issaka, and the junior didn't disappoint, playing every second of the contests while holdingĀ IssakaĀ without a single shot throughout the match. Wright also anchored the shutout performance by theĀ UAPBĀ defense versusĀ AlcornĀ State.

SWACĀ Goalkeeper of the Week – GuyotĀ picked up two victories between the pipes this season, facing 22 shots combined against Southern and Jackson State. The senior picked up her first shutout of the season, making seven saves versus the Jaguars. She carried her stretch of scoreless play to the 86thminute against Jackson State before allowing her lone mark of the day.
