Box Score 2 PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Arkansas-Pine Bluff split a doubleheader against Louisiana State University of Alexandria in non-conference action. In game one the Lady Lions took care of business and won 8-0 in five innings, but game two finished 5-2 in favor of the Generals. Here's how the action went down:?????
UAPB 8, LSU-A 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Lions got off to a hot start and scored four runs in the opening inning when
Shanice Akins laid down a perfect bunt that brought in
Tonnay Hawkins for the first run. Moments later,
Alexandria Taylor produced a two RBI double that scored both
Ta'Lyn Moody and Akins.
Monique Nikolao then generated a RBI that brought home Taylor.
In the third inning, a
Kameron Graham RBI single to right field allowed Taylor to touch home plate once again, then
Dominique Humphrey hit a sacrifice fly RBI to score
Kayla Ross. In the fourth, Ross produced a RBI single to center field that allowed Moody to score.
In the fifth,Moody generated a RBI single that brought in Humphrey. The final run gave UAPBÂ an 8-0 lead and essentially ended the game on a run rule.
UAPBÂ pitcher
Juliana Dominguez (4-5) was credited with the victory while McKell Marble got the loss for LSU-A. In five innings of work, Jewels Dominguez fanned two batters and allowed just two hits.
As a team, the Lady Lions finished with nine hits and two errors while the Generals finished with just two hits and one error. UAPB speedster Moody went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while teammate Taylor went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two RBI.
LSU-A 5, UAPBÂ 2
The Generals got on board first with two runs in the opening inning, but UAPBÂ responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning when
Kayla Ross produced a sacrifice fly RBI that scored
Ta'Lyn Moody. Both teams then remained scoreless for several innings until LSU-A managed to score a run in both the fourth and fifth inning, extending its lead to 4-1. However, the Lady Lions answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Moody produced a RBI single to left field that brought in
Ann Jones, but that was the last run UAPBÂ scored in the game.
UAPB pitcher
Karia Hall (3-8) picked up the loss while Abbey McMillian was credited with the win. Hall struck out five batters but allowed eight hits and five runs, two of which were earned.
As a team UAPBÂ managed just three hits (all by Moody) and finished with four errors the Generals had eight hits and no errors in the game.
UAPBÂ (12-21, 7-3Â SWAC) returns to action on Saturday, April 14 as it travels to Texas for a three-game series against the first place team in the conference in Texas Southern. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Houston.
