Alabama State (5-18, 5-6 SWAC) dominated the rebound battle 48-25 but led by just three at the break. UAPB shot 39 percent from the field while its opponent shot 43 percent. Both team shot poorly from behind the arc as UAPB hit just 3-of-15 three-pointers while the Hornets were just 3-of-17 from downtown. Alabama State produced 18 second chance points that proved to be the difference down the stretch while UAPB only scored five.
Charles Jackson finished with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks before fouling out.
Post-player Fausto Pichardo led the way for Alabama state with a game-high 17 points and 15 boards. Freshman
Terrance Banyard was relatively quiet with just nine points, two boards, one assist and one block in 15 minutes.
