Box Score GRAMBLING, La. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions seized a golden opportunity late in the season as it defeated the number one team in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a 75-66 victory over Grambling State University at the Fredrick D. Hobdy Assembly Center. The result snaps Grambling's 11-game win streak which was tied for the nation's longest win streak. On January 27, Grambling defeated UAPB 69-68 at H.O. Clemmons Arena and snapped its 9-game win streak.

The Golden Lions (11-18, 11-5 SWAC) quickly jumped out on top of the Tigers with a 13-2 run to open the game and produced a total of three scorers in double figures, including an extremely efficient game from Travon Harper who led UAPB with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with six boards and two blocks. UAPB led by one point at the break but poured in 41 second-half points thanks to a total of 34 points in the paint compared to just 20 for Grambling. Despite losing the rebound battle 48-38, the Golden Lions forced 18 Grambling turnovers and kept the Tigers in check, allowing only 18 made baskets (18-of-61) on 30 percent shooting from the field for the SWAC's top team while UAPB shot 45 percent from the field (25-of-56).

Grambling (15-13, 11-4 SWAC) was led by a trio of scorers as Nigel Ribeiro led all Tigers with 17 points. Shirmane Thomas was ice cold from the field and hit only two of his 10 attempts as he finished with 12 points while teammate Ivy Smith Jr. scored 11 points on 2-of-7 shooting from the field.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff returns to action on Monday, February 26 as it travels to Mississippi to face Jackson State University for its final road game of the regular season. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. On January 29, the Golden Lions trailed by as many as 19 points before storming back for a 60-58 victory at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
