Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions started off ice cold and trailed 17-2 in front of its home crowd in H.O. Clemmons Arena before storming back for a 62-61 victory against Texas Southern University in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The win completes the season sweep over TSU and keeps the Golden Lions tied with Southern for second place in the SWAC at 10-5.
UAPBÂ (10-19, 10-5 SWAC) was led by a duo of Golden Lions as
Martaveous McKnight and
Terrance Banyard both scored 16 points apiece and shot extremely well from the field. McKnight hit 6-of-9 shots from the field while the freshman Banyard swatted away three shots, dished out two assists and knocked down 8-of-12 from the field including a series of ferocious dunks that electrified the crowd at H. O. Clemmons Arena. Banyard also had a sensational put back dunk where it seemed like he jumped higher than the backboard to reach the basketball.
Travon Harper chipped in with eight points, seven boards and two blocks while teammate
Joe'Randle Toliver finished with six points and hit two 3-pointers in the victory.
Quamauri Hardy scored six points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field. As a team the Golden Lions won the rebound battle 33-29 and shot 49 percent from the field while its opponent shot 46 percent.
TSU (8-19, 8-6 SWAC) was led by Demontrae Jefferson who finished with 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field to go along with 4-of-5 from downtown. Jefferson did not miss a single shot in the first half and produced four assists but had three turnovers in the loss.
The Golden Lions outscored TSU 35-26 in the second half and only missed a total of two free throws all night. UAPB's bench outscored the Tigers' bench 34-2.
UAPB returns to action on Saturday, February 24 as it travels to Louisiana to face Grambling State University in SWAC action. Grambling currently sits in first place at 11-3 and holds the nation's longest winning streak at 11. On January 27, Grambling defeated UAPB 69-68 at H.O. Clemmons Arena and snapped its 9-game win streak.
UAPB looks to return the favor on Saturday.
