Box Score (Pine Bluff, Ark.) On a cool dreary afternoon to round out homecoming week, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions soccer team dropped yet another tight contest at Pumphrey Stadium on senior day, this time at the hands of Alabama State by the score of 1-0 in a rematch of last year's Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game. The Lady Lions led in possession and dominated nine to two in shots on goal but still could not find the net.
"On this one the stats don't lie," said UAPB head coach
Marcus Hoover. "We dominated possession, we dominated shots, we dominated in every way that you could dominate, but soccer is a game where a team can get one shot on net and score and win and unfortunately that was the case today where the other team had two total opportunities on our net that were actually good. We had some shots bounce off the post and also some that their keeper made nice saves on, but this was one that we very easily could have won two or three to zero, but it ended up being a 1-0 loss."
Following a scoreless first half, the Lady Hornets quickly jumped out of the gates in the second half with a goal off of a beautiful strike from outside the 18 by Inma Martinez. UAPBÂ (1-11-1, 1-5-1 SWAC) goalkeeper
Sariah Orocu leaped into the air with outstretched arms in an attempt to make a save but could not quite get to it as Alabama State (7-7, 5-2 SWAC) took a 1-0 lead. However, late in the second half,
Karissa Fenwick had a golden opportunity to tie the game with less than two minutes to play as her shot from inside the six got past the keeper but bounced off the post, then seconds later she had another opportunity to score but unfortunately her attempt went straight to the keeper.
Lone senior
Allison Herrin was honored prior to the game on senior day as she played her last game at Pumphrey Stadium as a member of the Lady Lions soccer team. Midfielder
Tyler Babb and Fenwick both tied a team-high with three shots on goal apiece.
The Lady Lions soccer team returns to action on Friday, October 20 as it travels to Alcorn State, Miss. to face Alcorn State University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
