ALABAMA STATE HOLDS OFF UAPB’S FOURTH QUARTER RALLY FOR 72-64 WIN
Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 7) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball team  fell to Alabama State, 74-62,here Saturday afternoon at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
In the first stanza of play, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 7-3 lead on a layup by Ajia Richardson with 8:11 to play. 
 
The Lady Hornets then tied the contest at 9-9 with a 6-2 run with a made free throw by Brittney Wright.  ASU then  extended their lead to 23-13 with a 14-4 run, capped off by a pair of free throws by Kayla Stephens with 20 seconds left in the quarter.

UAPB went into the second quarter of play trailing ASU, 25-13.
 
The Lady Lions went into the break trailing the Lady Hornets, 32-24 as UAPB outscore ASU, 11-7 in the second frame of play. 
 
In the third quarter, ASU pushed their lead to much as 20 points with the Lady Hornets outscoring the Lady Lions 23-14 to take a 55-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
UAPB cut ASU's lead to seven points on four occasions in the final quarter of play.   The Lady Lions opened the stanza with a 12-7 run to cut Lady Hornets lead to 57-50 on a Kye Richardson layup with 6:21 remaining in the contest.  
 
Malaik Muhammad made it a seven point ball game for the Lady Lions once again with a three pointer at the 4:38 mark, making the score 62-55 in favor of ASU.   UAPB would make a seven point ball game two more times in the quarter as the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Hornets, 24-19.
 
UAPB (3-10, 0-2 SWAC) had only one Lady Lion to finish in double figures in Destiny Brewton with 19.  Behind her was both Noe'll Taylor and Faith Ohanta with nine points each.  Ohanta led UAPB on the board with nine.
 
ASU (3-10, 2-1 SWAC) was led by Shamyiah Smith with a team high 16 points, followed by Britney Wright with 13 and Daniele Ewert with 12.  Wright led the Lady Hornets on the boards with seven.
 
UAPB will return to action on Monday, January 9 in a 5:30 p.m. start against Alabama A&M at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
