Lady Lions Battle Hard, Before Falling Late to Mississippi Valley St. Devilettes in Home Opener, 73-63

Pine Bluff, AR. - A valiant second-half comeback came up just short as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team fell, 73-63, to Mississippi Valley Devilettes (4-8, 1-0 SWAC) Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.

The Lady Lions came out the gate swinging in the first half shooting .480 from the field, .400 from behind the arch, and 8-of-10 from the charity stripes, as both teams went toe to toe, compared to the Devilettes shooting .333 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free throw line.

Despite being up by many as eight points (36-28) during halftime, the Devilettes outscored the Lady Lions 45-27 in the second half to rally for the victory. Valley's Lauren Elliot and Christina Reed combined for 41 points, which was a big deciding factor of the game.

UAPB (3-9, 0-1 SWAC) were led by sharp shooting Niya Head who finished with 15 points, before fouling out with 4:47 remaining in the game, being down five (62-57), while Faith Ohanta put up 14 points along with seven rebounds and Destiny Brewton chipped in nine points and six assists.

The Lady Lions return to action on Saturday Jan. 7, 2017, when they host Alabama State at the H.O. Clemmons Arena beginning at 5 p.m., in Community Appreciation Night. All Fans admitted for $5.00.
