JACKSON STATE HOLDS OFF UAPB FOR 32-20 WIN

Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 23)  - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Football team's second half rally came up short in a 32-20 loss to Jackson State, here Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.
 
JSU jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter with the Tigers scoring on their first possession on a 48-yard TD run by Jordan Johnson with 13:40 left in the first quarter.  JSU scored their second TD of the quarter on a 71-yard interception return for TD by Justin Jemison with 8:36 to go in the quarter.
 
Dante McDonald scored the Golden Lions first TD of the game from five yards out with 4:24 left in the quarter, cutting JSU's lead to 15-7.
 
JSU increased their lead to 18-7 on a 23-yard field goal by Christian Jacquemin with 8:16 remaining in the second quarter.  Then JSU's Brent Lyles would connect with Romello Shumake from 49-yards out to push the Tigers' lead to 25-7 with 2:10 left in the half.
 
UAPB closed out the half with a 30-yard field goal by Jamie Gillan to cut JSU's lead to 25-10.
 
The Golden Lions opened the second half with a 13-play, 79-yard drive, scoring on a three-yard TD pass to Nicholas Woodfork from three-yards  out, cutting JSU's lead to 25-17 with a 7:18 left in the quarter.
 
UAPB pulled within five on a 46-yard field goal by Gillan with 2:28 left in the third, cutting the Tiger's lead to 25-20.
 
JSU scored the final TD of the game on a 15-yard TD pass by Lyles to Shaquil Ward, giving the Tigers the 32-20 victory with 37 seconds left in the third quarter.
 
Duncan finished the contest with 267 yards with two TDs and one interception by completing 25 passes in 39 attempts and recorded 35 rushing yards on 12 attempts, finishing the contest with 302 yards of total offense.
 
McDonald led the Golden Lions ground attack with 41 yards on eight carries, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
 
Patrick Rowland and John Hawkins led the team in the receptions and receiving yards with Rowland recorded six receptions for 55 yards, whereas Hawkins tallied 66 receiving yards on five receptions.
 
Willie Duncan recorded this third double-tackle game this season as he finished the contest with six solo tackles and six assisted tackles for a total of 12 tackles.  Behind him was Shufon Alcorn with 10 total tackles with seven solos and three assisted.
 
Johnson led the Tigers' ground attack as he finished the contest with 85 yards on five carries and scoring one TD with his longest rush being for 48 yards.  Behind him was Joshua Bates with 77 yards on 18 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
 
Lyles the JSU quarterback finished the contest with 245 yards and two TDs by completing 14 passes in 24 attempts.
 
Ward led JSU in receptions with four and scoring one TD on 47 yards receiving yards, while Romello Shumake led the team in receiving yards with 64 yards on two receptions.
 
Zavian Bingham led the Tigers' defense with nine tackles (8 solos, 1 unassisted), followed by Preston Hughes with seven tackles and Keontre Anderson with six.
 
UAPB will return to action on Saturday, October 1 against Alabama State at New ASU Stadium in Montgomery, Ala., in a 2 p.m. start.
