Box Score HOUSTON, Texas (Nov. 12) - The University of Arkansas Football Team took another one on the chin with Texas Southern defeating the Golden Lions, 27-10 here Saturday afternoon at BBVA Compass Stadium.
TSU took a 20-0 lead into halftime with the Tigers scoring two TDs and nailing a pair of field goals in the quarter.
Jonathan Bowen scored TSU's first TD of the contest on a six-yard run, capping an 18-play, 99-yard drive by the Tigers with their drive last for more than 10 minute.
TSU increased their lead to 13-0 on pair of field goals by Eric Medina from 44-yard out and 24-yards out.
Tracy Johnson scored the Tigers' second TD of the game on a 59-yard TD pass from Bowen with 54 seconds left in the half.
On their first possession of the second half, UAPB used a 12-play, 73-yard drive to cut TSU's lead to 20-7 on a
Jamal Gladden two-run TD run with 6:51 remaining in the third quarter.
TSU ended the third quarter with a 34-yard TD pass by Medina to Elie Nabushosi with 1:32 left in the quarter, giving the Tigers a 27-7 lead.
UAPB scored the final points of the contest on a 33-yard field goal by
Jamie Gillan with 9:42 left in the contest for the 27-10 finale.
The Golden Lions was led by LeEarl Patterson with 176 yard of total offense. Patterson rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries and passes for 136 yards by completing 17 passes in 30 attempts.
Cody Swain led the UAPB receivers with 84 yards on six receptions, while
Willie Young finished the contest with 48 yards on four receptions.
Both Willie Duncan and
Scottie Peace lead the Golden Lions' defense with them both finishing in double-digit tackles. Duncan finished the contest with 11 total takedowns, while Peace finished with 10.
TSU had a two backs to rush for the century mark in Brad Woodard and Tylor Cook. Woodard finished the contest with 117 yards on 28 carries, while Cook recorded 101 yards on eight carries.
Bowen led TSU's passing attack as he finished with 88 yards by completing four passes in seven attempts with one TD.
On defense TSU was led by Zafir Murphy with 11 total tackles.
UAPB will return to the comforts of Golden Lion Stadium on Saturday, November 19 with the Golden Lions taking on Prairie View A&M in their final contest of the season in a 2:30 p.m. start.
