SOUTHERN ROUTS UAPB, 49-17

Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. (Oct. 22) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Football dropped their fourth straight in a 49-17 loss to Southern University, here Saturday afternoon at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
 
SU jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with Lenard Tillery scoring both of his TDs on six-yard runs at the 10:56 mark and the other at the 5:57 mark.
 
UAPB scored their first TD of the game on a receiver reverse pass to Willie Young from Cody Swain from 62 yards out at the 4:59 mark of the quarter, cutting SU's lead to 14-7. 
 
John West scored the Jaguars' third TD of the quarter from six yards out, capping a three-play, 33-yard drive by SU with 3:36 left to play, increasing their lead to 21-7 over the Golden Lions.
 
UAPB cut SU's lead to 21-10 on a 25-yard field goal by Jamie Gillan before the half at the 5:46 mark of the second quarter.
 
In the third quarter, the Jaguars increased their lead to 35-10 on pair of TD passes by Austin Howard.  Howard connected with Willie Quinn from 11 yards out at the 8:11 mark and then connected with Dontrell Brown form 14 yards out with 28 seconds left in the quarter.
 
SU outscored UAPB 14-7 in the fourth quarter for the 49-17 final with the Jaguars scoring on a 27-yard TD pass to Quinn from Howard and Deonte Shorts scoring a four-yard run.  UAPB scored their final TD of the game on a two-yard run by LeEarl Patterson with 8:32 to go in the game.
 
Terry Montgomery was the Golden Lions' leading rusher with 35 yards on seven carries, followed by KeShawn Williams with 26 yards on four carries and Brandon Duncan with 20 yards on 12 carries.
 
Duncan finished the contest with 181 yards through the air by completing 20 passes in 29 attempts with one interceptions. 
 
Young led the UAPB receivers with 118 yards on eight receptions and scoring one TD.  Behind him was Jaelen Collins with 72 yards on five receptions.
 
UAPB had three players to finish in double-digit tackles with Willie Duncan finishing with a team high 14 tackles, followed by Jentrel Woodard with 12 and Scottie Peace with 10.
 
Tillery led the Jaguars ground attack with 135 yards on 19 carries and scoring two TDs.
 
Howard finished the contest with 292 yards by completing 22 passes in 22 attempts with three TDs.
 
Rhaheim Ledbetter led the SU in tackles with five tackles, 0.5 tackles and one pass breakup.
 
UAPB will return to action on Saturday, October 29 against Grambling State at Eddie Robinson State in Grambling, La., in a 2 p.m. kick.
