Lubbock, TX.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff struggled mightily from the field on Saturday at the United Supermarkets Arena, falling 94-54 to Texas Tech (8-1), while shooting just 32 percent. But senior
Trent Whiting scored a game high 15 points, including nine in the second half to provide a bright spot for the Golden Lions.
The Golden Lions (2-10) fell behind 52-19 at the half thanks in large part to the dominance of the Red Raiders in the paint where they outscored UAPB 14-6, 17 points off turnovers and connecting on 5-of-7 from behind the arch.
"Lets give credit to Texas Tech", they played hard and competitive, they had 22 assist and shared the ball real well, head coach
George Ivory said. "They made shots, anytime you making shots it makes any team offense looks good and I thought they did a very good job moving the ball." They caught on fire and once they felt us in the second half, they just took off and did what they were supposed to do which was made shots and we didn't tonight."
UAPB coming off two tough close games against No.4 Iowa State and Santa Clara before playing Tubby Smith ballclub.
The Golden Lions opened the second half on two straight baskets, with a three from
Trent Whiting, a steal and layup by
Jaquan Lynch. The second half was much improved from the first half, but the Red Raiders were just too much for the Golden Lions.
Lynch finished with 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting (3-of-7 from 3), two rebounds and three steals.
Deshon Bayless finished with 10 points, connecting 3-of-3 from the field and 2-of-2 from behind the arch.
Little Rock, Arkansas native Aaron Ross led the Red Raiders with 15 points, followed by Zach Smith, Norense Odiase with 12 points and Pine Bluff, Arkansas native Keenan Evans contributed 10 points.
The Golden Lions will next travel to Athens, Ohio to face the Bobcats for a Dec. 21. matchup at 7 p.m. ET
