Box Score Grambling, La.- It was a senior day for the Lady Tigers, but that didn't stop the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women Soccer team from finishing the regular season on a high note, by defeating Grambling St. 4-0 at the GSU Soccer Complex Friday evening.
Junior Maria De Campos scored the first goal for the UAPB in the 30th minute. De Campos who shot the ball out of the keeper's reach to give the Lady Lions a 1-0 lead on a free kick after being foul.
Despite outshooting the Lady Tigers 13-1 in the first half, UAPB made its way back to the locker room with only a 1-0 lead at the break.
However, the Lady Lions found their spark in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Tiera Poyner and
Karissa Fenwick had great ball movement out front and were able to find
Gabrielle Ybara who buried the ball in the low left corner of the goal to give UAPB the 2-0 edge.
The lead would only grow from there. as in the 66th minute a blocked attempted shot found its way to Ciara Fenwick who kicked the ball out to her sister an open
Karissa Fenwick to increase the lead to 3-0.
The final goal of the match would come at the foot of
Abigail Kay, as
Mariah Johnson found the open freshman out in front of the goal. Kay then dribbled in with a swift move faked out the keeper to net the fourth and final goal of the match.
With the win, UAPB moves to 7-9-1 on the year and 6-4 in conference play. Meanwhile, the loss drops Grambling St to 2-1 on the year and 2-8 in SWAC play.
The Lady Lions were a force on offense, out shooting the Lady Tigers 26-5 on the day with
Rebecca Holmes and Maria De Campos leading UAPB with five shot attempts apiece.
Makayla Cowles got the start in goal for the UAPB, racking up two saves for the day, but it would be freshman Allyison Stuart who would close out the shutout for UAPB in goal.
UAPB will now await its seed heading into next week Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament held in Huntsville, Alabama.
