Box Score JACKSON, Miss. (Oct. 24) - Jackson State hands, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff their fifth straight loss with the Tigers defeating the Golden Lions, 37-3 here Saturday afternoon at the Mississippi Veteran Memorial Stadium.
JSU took a 27-0 lead into the half time with the Tigers scoring twice in the first quarter and three times in the second.
The Tigers scored on a 48-yard TD pass to Devin Fosselman from Jarin Morikawa with 12:35 left in the first, following a 20-yard field goal by Ryan Deising with 10 second left in the quarter giving the Tigers a 10-0, after one quarter of play.
JSU scored two TDs in the second on a 42-yard TD run by Robert Johnson at the 7:10 mark and a 10-yard TD pass to Fosselman from Morikawa with 4:39 left in the quarter. Deising scored their final points of the half with a 39-yard field goal with 1:11 left in the quarter.
UAPB lit up the scoreboard with 4:06 left to go in the third on a
Jamie Gillan 22-yard field goal cutting the Tigers' lead to 27-3.
In the fourth quarter, JSU recorded two more scores with Fossleman scoring his third TD of the game on a 59-yard TD pass from Morikawa at the 14:03 mark, followed by a Deising 49-yard field goal for the 37-3 finale.
Nolen Sorensen finished as the Golden Lions leading rusher with 27 yards on eight carries, followed by
Nicholas Woodfork with 21 yards on seven carries.
Sorensen finished the contest with 99 yards passing by completing nine passes in 32 attempts. This is the first time this season, the Golden Lions quarterbacks did not throw an interception in the game.
John Hawkins finished the contest with 52 yards receiving on four receptions.
Matthew Guth, the UAPB punter finished the contest with 414 punting yards on 12 boots for a 34.5 average.
The UAPB defense was led by both Willie Duncan and
Rashad Boyd. Duncan finished the contest with 12 total takedowns, whereas Boyd tallied 11 tackles with one tackle for loss. This is Boyd's second straight game with double-digit tackles.
Johnson led the Tigers ground attack as he finished the contest with 100 yards rushing on 18 carries with one TD.
Morikawa the JSU signal caller passes for 333 yards in the contest by completing 25 passes in 40 attempts with three TDs.
Fossleman led the JSU receivers with 175 receiving yards on six receptions and scoring three TDs.
Kwame Brown led the Tigers' defense with nine tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.
UAPB will return to action next week as they will travel to Waller, Texas to take on Prairie View A&M on Saturday, October 31 at Waller ISD Stadium in a 12 p.m. start.
