Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 12) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball Team pulled out a 70-69 overtime win over Alabama A&M for their second conference win of the season, here Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Ajia Richardson gave the Lady Lions an 8-3 as she connected on a jumper with 17:25 left in the in the first.
Alabama A&M used an 8-2 run to take an 11-10 lead, capped off by a Taylor Sippial layup with 11:27 left in the half.
Janie Myles tied the contest at 18-18 for the Lady Bulldogs with a three point play at the 5:05 mark of the half.
UAPB outscored AAMU, 12-8 to end the half as the Lady Lions went into the break leading the Lady Bulldogs, 30-26.
The Lady Lions finished the first half shooting 44.4 percent (12-of-27), whereas Lady Bulldogs shot 38.1 percent (8-of-21).
In the first three minutes of the second half, UAPB grabbed a 36-30 lead on two straight baskets by Richardson and
Shami Goodman with 17:00 left in the half.
Janie Myles tied the contest at 42-42 for AAMU with a layup with 10:12 to go, capping a 12-6 run by the Lady Bulldogs.
Jazmyne Victorian gave the Lady Lions a 58-53 lead as she made a layup with 2:18 left in the contest.
Brittney Strickland made a pair of free throws to tie the contest at 61-61 with five second left in the contest to send the contest into overtime, capping an 8-3 run by the Lady Bulldogs.
In the overtime period scored the first three pints of the period with a
Destiny Brewton layup, followed by a
Carlisha Walker free throw, giving UAPB a 64-61 lead with 4:16 left in the period.
A Brooke Dixon layup with 3:13 to gave the AAMU a 65-64 lead, but UAPB regained the lead on their very next possession as Walker nailed a pair of free throws to give the Lady Lions, a 66-65 lead with 2:56 left in the contest.
Back-to-back layups by both
Diamond Richardson and Brewton gave UAPB a 70-65 lead at the 1:56 mark.
AAMU cut UAPB's lead to 70-69 as Dixon connected on a pair of free throws and a Strickland layup with 1:02 to go in the game, that would be close as the Lady Bulldogs would get as the Lady Lions held on for the 70-69 win.
UAPB (4-10, 2-1 SWAC) had four Lady Lions to score in double-figures with both Brewton and Walker scoring a team high 14 points, followed by Victorian with 12 and Richardson with 11. In addition, Walker finished the contest with six rebounds, six assists and four steals.
AAUM (3-12, 2-2 SWAC had four Lady Bulldogs to score in double-figures with Strickland scoring a game high 21 points to lead all scorers, followed by Myles with 13, Sippial added 11 and Dixon finished the contest with 10. Myles led the Lady Bulldogs on the boards with nine.
UAPB will return to action on this weekend as they will travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on Southern University on Saturday, January 17 at F.G. Clark Activity Center.
