Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Sept. 6) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Football team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Concordia College, 31-0 in their home opener here Saturday night at Golden Lion Stadium.
UAPB struck first as they took a 3-0 lead on a
Tyler Strickland, 47-yard field goal with 9:33 to go in the first. The Golden Lions closed out the quarter with a nine-yard TD pass to
Wesley Hawthorne from
Benjamin Anderson as the first quarter ended, capping  13-play 83 yard drive, giving a UAPB a 10-0 lead going into the second quarter.
The Golden Lions added to their lead as they went into the break with a 17-0 on a nine-yard TD run by
Michael Wilson with 5:23 left in the second quarter, capping an 11-play, 66-yard drive by UAPB.
Willie Young added to the Golden Lion lead with a 14-yard TD pass from Anderson with 9:11 left in the third.
Aaron LaGrone scored UAPB's final TD of the evening from seven yards for the 31-0 finally.
UAPB finished the contest with 335 yards of total offense (203 rushing, 132 passing) as they controlled the time of possession with the Golden Lions finishing the contest with 34:37, whereas Concordia tallied 25:23. The Golden Lions committing 10 infractions for 104 yards, while the Hornets finished with 12 penalties for 98 yards.
Quarterback Anderson finished the contest as the Golden Lions leading rusher with 62 yards on 13 carries, behind him was both
Aaron LaGrone and
Michael Wilson as they both finished with 56 yards rushing and scoring one TD a piece.
Anderson completed 12 passes in 17 attempts for 132 yards with two TDs as he finished the contest with 194 yards of total offense (62 rushing, 132 passing).
Both Hawthorne and Young where the top targets for the Anderson tonight as Hawthorne finished the contest with 52 yards on four receptions and one TD, while Young recorded three receptions for 32 yards and one TD.
Defensively UAPBÂ was led by
Antonio Jenkins as he finished the contest with 10 total takedowns (3 solo, 7 asst), and one tackles for loss, followed by
Demarcus Berry with seven tackles, 0.5 sacks and two tackles for loss.
Matthew Rowser led the Hornets ground attack as he rushed for 29 yards on eight carries, followed by Haratio Keller eight yards on three carries.Â
Concordia College used three quarterbacks in the contest with Aaron Pierce leading the Hornets signal callers with 34 passing yards by completing four passes in seven attempts with one interception.
Both Johnathan Drake and Andrew Taylor as they both finished with seven tackles apiece, while Jaamal Kidd recorded six total takedowns in the contest.
With the win, UAPB increases their record to 1-1, where as Concordia College drops to 0-1 on the season.
UAPB will return to action on Thursday, September 18 as they will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Alabama State at Hornet Stadium in a 6:30 p.m. kick broadcasted live on ESPNU.
