Houston, TX- Despite holding a 10 point lead, early in the second half, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team could not hold the advantage, as the Lions fell to Texas Southern, 72-71, on Monday night national televised ESPNU game at the HPE Arena.

The loss was the third consecutive on the road for the Lions. With the decision, UAPB drops to (4-15, 2-5 SWAC) and Texas Southern improves to (9-10, 5-2 SWAC).

UAPB opened the game up by seven after taking a 14-7 lead at the 12:51 mark, courtesy of Marcel Mosley layup. Both teams would trade baskets for the next three minutes, before the Tigers would go on a run over a six minute span. The push gave the Tigers an e10-point crutch, 32-22, at the 2:09 mark.

UAPB scored three consecutive points to drop its deficit to two, with a three pointer by Marcel Mosley with less than 10 seconds to bring the score for intermission Texas Southern 34, UAPB 32.

With cutting the Tigers lead from 10 down to two proved to be the first in the past four games the Lions are shooting well. UAPB shot 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the three point line in the half.

Texas Southern was on fire to open the second-half as they scored six unanswered points over the first two minutes.
The run erased the once UAPB Daniel Broughton connected on four consecutive threes and gave the Lions a 55-48 lead with 12:51 left in the game. It was an even affair for the next 10 minutes of action for both teams.

As the game came to under a minute, UAPB had an opportunity after a Texas Southern missed shot with seven seconds left to make the last basket at the buzzer, with Tevin Hammonds missing a last second shot for the win.

The Lions shot a lot better the past four games, shooting 24-of-59(40.7%) from the field, 14-of-27(51.9%) from the arch and 9-of-12(75.0%) from the charity stripes.

UAPB had five players in double figures as junior Marcel Mosley and senior Daniel Broughton had team-high 17points. Junior Tevin Hammond chipped in with 15 points and four steals, while Davon Haynes added 11 points.

Texas Southern was led by Aaric Murray with 34 points. The senior was 12-20 from FG, scoring 24 of his 34 points fin the paint. D'Angelo Scott also chipped in 11 points for the Tigers.

The Lions looked to get back in the win column when they host Grambling St at the H.O. Clemmons Arena on Feb. 1 at 7:30
