PINE BLUFF -- The UAPB soccer season will continue despite a 1-0 loss to Jackson State on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams. The Lady Lions captured the No. 4 seed in the Western Division when Grambling lost to Southern on Sunday.
The SWAC soccer championship tournament will take place next weekend, Nov. 7-10, at Houston Amateur Sports Park in Houston, Texas. The Lady Lions will face East regular season champion Alabama State on Thursday. The game time will be determined when the bracket is released by the conference.
In a wall-to-wall defensive battle, Jackson State scored the only goal in the game in the first half. Jalana Ellis scored the game-winner in the 33rd minute with an assist from Rayana Speight.
From there, the JSU defense, anchored by goalkeeper Taylor Emerson, kept UAPB off the board. Emerson finished the game with five saves. Lady Lions keeper Alyssa Cobbs had eight saves in the game. JSU outshot UAPB 20-9 in the game.
