The Matchup:

It's homecoming for Mississippi Valley. Both teams are suffering through disappointing seasons after successful 2012 campaigns. UAPB of course was the defending SWAC champion from a year ago, while MVSU was much improved and had a lot of hope going into 2013. However, for both teams, it's been a nightmare. With little more than pride left to play for, the Golden Lions and Delta Devils look to finish the season strong and take some momentum into 2014.

The Golden Lions are coming off of a tough 29-21 loss to Southern on homecoming last week, while MVSU ran into a buzzsaw at Prairie View, getting thumped 51-14. The one win between the two teams belongs to MVSU, who whipped Alabama A&M 28-9.

Series Record:

The Golden Lions and Delta Devils have met 44 times and the series is a virtual deadlock. UAPB has a slim 22-21-1 lead in the series, which began in 1963. After UAPB won six of the first nine games, MVSU went 14 games in the series without losing. The only game they didn't win between 1972 and 1988 was the lone tie in the series, which took place in 1981 when the game ended deadlocked at 23-all.

UAPB stopped the bleeding in 1989 winning 20-0. After MVSU won the next two games, the Golden Lions got their turn to dominate the series between 1995 and 2004, winning 10 in a row. Going into Saturday, UAPB has a 5-game winning streak against MVSU.
