Lady Lions Trample Harding Lady Bisons

Lady Lions Keeper Olivia Wood Makes a Leaping Save
SEARCY, AR—The Lady Lions won Friday night 4-1 over the Lady Bisons of Harding University. The Lady Lions are now 3-4-0 in non-conference play.

The Lady Lions got on the board first in the fourth minute when Rachel Harker hit Silvia Fuentes on a through ball up the middle. Fuentes got on the board again in the 26th minute when she received a pass from Molly Stone from the right for her sixth goal of the season. The score ended 2-0 going into half time.

“I thought we came out ready to play tonight against Harding,” said Coach Roberto Mazza. “We did not play well last game even though we won 4-0 against Central Baptist. We needed to step up our level tonight because Harding University is a good team and they arevwell coached”.

The Lady Lions came out of half time looking like a fresh team and put the Lady Bisons on their heels by not allowing them out of their own half. The Lady Lions found the back of the net again in the 54th minute when Silvia Fuentes crossed the ball to the far post and Molly Stone headed it in the back of the net. Not even a minute later HU committed a foul in the box and Erika Forbes converted the penalty kick for her first goal of the season.

The Lady Bisons scored in the 74th minute but the game was out of reach at that point. The Lady Lions outshot the Lady Bisons 22-12 and 14 to 5 in the second half.

“The start of the second half was critical for our team,” said Mazza. “We wanted to come out in the second half strong and put the game out of reach. I was very pleased how we played tonight.”

The Lady Lions will be back in action on Sunday as they travel to Jonesboro, AR to face Arkansas State at 1PM.
