STILLWATER, Okla.-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff soccer team put forth a valiant effort on Friday night as they dropped a hard fought NCAA First Round match versus the Oklahoma State Cowgirls losing 9-1.
The loss brings a close to an amazing season for the Lady Lions soccer program. UAPB entered the NCAA tournament riding the wave of a 13-game winning streak.
OSU went ahead 2-0 in the first half before the Lady Lions rallied to cut the deficit to 2-1 when Reghan Zilkie found the back of the net off of an assist from Perri Woslosky. Arkansas-Pine Bluff trailed OSU 2-1 at intermission.
"We played well in the first half and our players gave it their all throughout the entire game," said UAPB head coach Roberto Mazza. "Oklahoma has one of the top tier programs in the country and I couldn't be more proud with the way our team went out and competed tonight."
The Lady Lions finish the season with a 16-5-1 overall record. The Lady Lions also became the first team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference to score a goal in the NCAA Tournament. The 16 victories mark the most wins by the Lady Lions soccer program in school history.
