Senior forward Nicole Parks- Powell scored 25 minutes into the game, and it stood as the Lady Lions game winning goal over Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Sunday afternoon.
The win moves UAPB's record to 7-4-1 with a Southwestern Athletic Conference record of 3-0.
“I am very proud of the way we played this afternoon,” said Head Coach Roberto Mazza. “We had plenty of chances to score today, but we need to do a better job in front of the goal”.
The Lady Lions set a new team record with 30 shots today. The Lady Lions came out strong in the first half outshooting the Delta Devils 12 shots to 1. In the Second half, the Lady Lions kept putting their foot on the gas outshooting the Delta Devils 18 shots to 2.
“We put them under a lot of pressure but we need to put our chances away,” said Mazza. “Defensively we played very well and the defense had opportunities to join in on the attack”.
Freshman goal keeper Meaghan Storie made 1 save and produced 2 consecutive shutouts this weekend. “Meaghan has done a great job for us since she has returned from injury. She has played in two and a half games and has not allowed a goal yet”, said Mazza.
They Lady Lions were on the road for two games this weekend and came home with two wins.
Molly Stone,
Silvia Fuentes and
Erika Forbes also assisted on goals this weekend. “These players have been playing well,” said Mazza. “It is nice to have other players stepping up at this point of the season. I thought
Rachel Harker had two outstanding games this weekend as well.”
The Lady Lions will be at home this upcoming weekend. They will host Alabama A&M on Friday at 3:00pm and Alabama State on Sunday at 1:00pm.
