PINE BLUFF, Ark.-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff football team dropped a pivotal contest to the Grambling State Tigers on Saturday.
The Golden Lions jumped out to a 14-0 lead after red-shirt freshman quarterback Ben Anderson connected on two touchdown passes to Jevon Dixon and Mareo Howard early in the first quarter.
“We got off to a good start offensively,” said UAPB head coach
Monte Coleman. “Defensively we felt like we played well and we did a good job of forcing turnovers.”
GSU rallied to tie the game after a 25 yard touchdown toss from Frank Rivers to Damien Jefferson. Grambling went into intermission with a 21-17 halftime advantage.
In the second half perhaps the play of the game was made by the Tigers secondary unit as Edward Petterson returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown bringing the score to 27-20 which would subsequently be the games' final tally.
UAPB will host Alabama State for Homecoming this weekend at Golden Lions Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 pm.
