#UAPBSoftball: Golden Lions Splits Doubleheader with Lincoln (Mo.)

PINE BLUFF, AR. — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team split a Tuesday doubleheader with Lincoln (Mo.), dropping the opener 5–4 before responding with a dominant 14–6 run-rule victory in Game 2 at the UAPB Softball Complex.

GAME 1
Lincoln (Mo.) 5, UAPB 4
The UAPB Lady Lions mounted a late comeback but came up just short in a 5–4 loss to Lincoln (Mo.) in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Danika Bryant (0-2) got the start in the circle for UAPB and was charged with the loss. Karis Stewart provided a strong relief performance, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with no walks and one strikeout.

At the Plate
Ariana Gonzalez paced the Lady Lions offense with a standout performance, finishing 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Janai Mathis also delivered at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.

How It Happened
  • Lincoln built an early 5–0 lead before UAPB began its comeback.
  • The Lady Lions broke through in the fourth inning, scoring three runs. The rally was highlighted by a two-RBI double from Mathis, cutting the deficit to 5–3.

The Golden Lions bounced back dominantly in Game 2, exploding for 14 runs on 12 hits to defeat Lincoln (Mo.) 14–6 in five innings.
UAPB scored in four of the five innings, including a decisive six-run fifth inning to secure the run-rule victory.

How It Happened
  • Lincoln struck first with three runs in the opening inning.
  • UAPB answered immediately with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 3–2.
  • The Golden Lions then took control in the second inning, plating four runs to move ahead 6–3.
  • Lincoln added two runs in the third and another in the fourth, but UAPB continued to respond offensively.
  • Leading 8–6 entering the fifth inning, the Golden Lions erupted for six runs to close out the game.

At the Plate
UAPB's lineup produced a balanced offensive effort. Chasney Cooper led the way, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base.

Angelina Rivas added a hit and one RBI while scoring two runs, while Shakaidria Hubbard reached base twice, scored two runs, and stole a base from the leadoff spot.
The Golden Lions combined for two doubles and two triples while drawing nine walks and not striking out during the game.

The UAPB pitching staff limited Lincoln to seven hits and six runs, settling in after the early inning to help secure the victory.
