PINE BLUFF, AR. — The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team shot 52.9 percent from three-point range on the way to an 84–77 victory over Alcorn State Saturday at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Four Golden Lions scored in double figures, led by Quion Williams, who finished with a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds. Alex Mirhosseini added 20 points and dished out six assists, while Jaquan Scott recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
UAPB's ball movement proved to be a difference-maker, as the Golden Lions totaled 15 assists on 28 made field goals. Mirhosseini paced the team with six assists, and Trevon Payton contributed four.
Defensively, UAPB disrupted Alcorn State throughout the contest, registering five blocked shots. Scott led the way with three rejections as the Golden Lions protected the paint effectively.
How It Happened
UAPB built early momentum, jumping out to a 37–29 lead before closing the first half on a 5–0 run. A basket by Williams with 6:15 remaining in the half pushed the advantage to 42–29, and the Golden Lions entered the break leading 49–34. UAPB connected on seven three-pointers in the opening half, accounting for 21 of its 49 points.
The Golden Lions carried that momentum into the second half, opening on a 5–0 run capped by a Mirhosseini three-pointer to extend the lead to 54–34 with 18:43 remaining. Alcorn State trimmed the margin late, but UAPB remained in control down the stretch to secure the 84–77 victory. The Golden Lions added nine fast-break points in the second half to maintain separation.
