#UAPBMensHoops: Lockdown Defense, Williams Double-Double Fuel Golden Lions Win Over Jackson State

PINE BLUFF, AR. — Quion Williams recorded a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the UAPB men's basketball team to an 84–63 home victory over Jackson State on Monday.

Williams also facilitated the offense with six assists as the Golden Lions delivered a balanced performance. Jaquan Scott added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Trevon Payton contributed 13 points and two steals.


UAPB took excellent care of the basketball, dishing out 16 assists while committing just seven turnovers. Alex Mirhosseini chipped in with five assists to help keep the offense flowing.

Defensively, the Golden Lions limited Jackson State to 36.5 percent shooting from the field, including just 25.9 percent from three-point range. UAPB also held Jayme Mitchell Jr. to 4-of-14 shooting in the contest.


How It Happened

After building a 34–31 lead, UAPB closed the first half on a 7–0 run over the final 2:39 to take a 41–31 advantage into halftime.

The Golden Lions maintained control in the second half and used a decisive 14–0 run to extend the lead to 64–42 with 9:39 remaining. Jackson State trimmed the deficit briefly, but UAPB cruised the rest of the way to secure the 84–63 win. The Golden Lions capitalized on six offensive rebounds to score eight second-chance points in the second half.
