PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team used a dominant second half to pull away from Alabama A&M, earning a 95-83 victory Saturday afternoon at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB entered halftime locked in a 41-41 tie with the Bulldogs, but the Golden Lions took control after the break, outscoring Alabama A&M 54-42 in the second half to secure their first conference win of the season.
Five Golden Lions scored in double figures, led by Jaquan Scott, who finished with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds. Quion Williams added 20 points and five assists, while Alex Mirhosseini chipped in 16 points and five assists. Mirhosseini was a key presence from beyond the arc, knocking down four three-pointers.
UAPB was efficient from long range throughout the contest, connecting on 10-of-19 attempts from three-point distance.
How It Happened
After falling behind 12-9 early, the Golden Lions responded with a 5-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Ahmad Johnson to take a 14-12 lead with 14:32 remaining in the first half. Alabama A&M answered back, and the teams traded baskets before heading into the locker room tied at 41-41. UAPB relied heavily on its perimeter shooting in the opening half, scoring 18 of its 41 points from beyond the arc.
Coming out of halftime, UAPB seized momentum. After taking a slim 58-54 lead, the Golden Lions went on a 6-0 run punctuated by a Scott jumper to push the advantage to 64-54 with 12:57 remaining. From there, UAPB continued to stretch the lead and controlled the remainder of the game en route to the 12-point win.
