PINE BLUFF, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team connected on 52.6 percent of its three-point attempts and used a balanced scoring effort to earn a 90-79 Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over Alabama State Monday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The Golden Lions improved to 5-10 overall and 2-0 in SWAC play, placing four players in double figures. Alex Mirhosseini led all scorers with 21 points, while Ramel Lloyd Jr. provided a spark off the bench with 19 points. Quion Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
UAPB controlled the glass throughout the contest, outrebounding the Hornets 41-29. The Golden Lions collected 12 offensive rebounds and converted them into 10 second-chance points.
How It Happened
After falling behind 13-12 early in the first half, UAPB went on a 6-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Lloyd Jr. with 12:47 remaining to take an 18-13 lead. The Golden Lions continued to build momentum and entered halftime with a 42-32 advantage, capitalizing on six Alabama State turnovers that resulted in 11 points.
Alabama State briefly regained the lead at 58-57 in the second half before UAPB responded with an 11-0 run to reclaim control, pushing the margin to 68-58 with 7:51 remaining. The Golden Lions steadily extended the lead the rest of the way, securing the 90-79 victory. UAPB's bench played a key role down the stretch, accounting for 15 of the team's 48 second-half points.
