HOUSTON, Texas – The UAPB men's basketball team put together a dominant defensive performance, limiting Texas Southern to just 14.3 percent shooting from three-point range (2-for-14) on the way to a 74–66 road victory over the Tigers on Saturday.
The Golden Lions (6–10, 3–0 SWAC) placed four players in double figures, led by Jaquan Scott, who finished with 18 points and two steals. Quion Williams recorded a strong double-double with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, while Ramel Lloyd Jr. provided a spark off the bench with 14 points.
UAPB's defensive effort proved decisive, as the Golden Lions consistently contested perimeter shots and controlled the paint throughout the contest.
How It Happened
After briefly falling behind 16–15, UAPB responded with an 11–0 run midway through the first half to seize a 26–16 advantage with 9:57 remaining. Although Texas Southern trimmed the deficit, the Golden Lions entered halftime with a 34–25 lead, scoring 18 of their 34 first-half points in the paint.
UAPB maintained control after the break and extended its lead with an 8–0 run, pushing the margin to 53–37 with 11:35 left in the game. The Tigers made a late push, but the Golden Lions stayed composed down the stretch to secure the eight-point win. UAPB continued to assert itself inside, scoring 22 of its 40 second-half points in the lane.
